Creation of a physical model transposing properties observed in an element of nature — the artichoke. The natural object was meticulously analysed through freehand drawing, in a procedure tracing back to inventors like Leonardo da Vinci. Subsequently, several properties regarding its proportions, rhythm, twisting and turning could be identified.
Amongst them, a curious spiral pattern found at the heart of the artichoke was taken as a starting point for the development of the model. It was then translated into a torsion movement, with rubber bands inside a shell creating line patterns that change spatially as the object is moved.
