Submitted as part of ‘London Revealed’ design competition – a Fantasy High Street Project for Team London Bridge – this winning entry playfully re-imagines the London red phone box as a piece of green infrastructure. In ‘London Calling’ the iconic piece of street furniture, rendered obsolete by the advance of mobile phone technology, is now reclaimed by plants that inhabit it and reveal a new purpose. The installation sought to demonstrate how nature can breathe new life into forgotten corners of our cities, while inviting passers-by to take a seat and contemplate.
The installation created by The Edible Bus Stop team configures a mobile garden, first exhibited at Potters Field Park close to London City Hall. It was then moved to Great Maze Pond, opposite Guy’s Hospital and is now in its third location in London Bridge at Melior St. Gardens.
